I hate James Taylor. For the most part, this album is a lackluster folk rock affair. Acoustic guitar, soft vocals, sensie sounds, etc. etc. When homeboy here isn’t evoking the James Taylor-esque sound, he’s coming across like a poor man’s Neil Young, and I’m simply failing to find anything captivating about what’s on display here. To sum this thing up quick, I’ve had this album for like two or three months now. I’d play it once, nothing about it would leap out at me, and then I’d shove it towards the back of the pile for another couple of weeks before remembering that I needed to do a review on it. So, after all this time, that’s my review. There’s nothing compelling here. Not a single track springs to mind. I can’t even differentiate one song from another really. This is the kind of thing you might expect to hear when you’re put on hold, or standing in an elevator, or hanging out at a chain coffee shop. It’s not the kind of thing you’d expect any Thug to be rocking out to. There’s no edge, no bite, no hook, no anything but a constant sensie-folk-rock sound that is rather indistinguishable. (yawn………..)
